Expert reveals when you should drink your first coffee in the morning


An expert has revealed the optimal time for your morning coffee fix, as nearly 100 million cups of coffee are guzzled down daily in the UK.

With many Brits practically running on caffeine, it’s a common sight to see people clutching their morning brew to kickstart their day or to stave off an afternoon slump.

However, it turns out that having a coffee immediately after waking up might not be the best idea.

Rex Isap, the CEO at Happy Beds, advises against having coffee in the first hour after waking up and suggests waiting until exactly 8.33 am for the first sip, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Explaining the reasoning, he stated: “When it comes to the ideal time to have your first coffee, we might tend to reach for the kettle as soon as we wake up. Ideally, however, you want to wait an hour before waking to truly reap the benefits.”

He further elaborated on the science behind this timing: “When we wake, our cortisol levels are at their peak. Cortisol, often associated with stress, enhances your alertness levels.

“So, drinking caffeine while your cortisol levels are already high can work against this or even help with gaining a tolerance for caffeine.”

Given that the average UK resident wakes at 7.33 am, Rex’s recommendation is to indulge in your inaugural cup of joe at 8.33am.
