Ferrari will ditch their famous all-red car for two shades of blue when Formula 1 heads to Miami next month. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will get behind the wheel of their SF-24 which will feature two different shades of blue – one a lighter shade of blue similar to that on the Argentinian flag.
The second is a darker shade, Azzurro Dino, with legendary driver Clay Regazzoni the last to race with that colour. Ferrari‘s special blue-inspired livery and race suits are to pay tribute to its breakthrough into the American marketplace. Although the livery is being kept under wraps for now, Leclerc and Sainz have already laid eyes on their blue uniforms.
“That’s a bit old school. I love it,” Leclerc said in a video posted to Ferrari‘s X page. Other legendary drivers to have worn blue while racing for Ferrari, such as 1964 world champion John Surtees, Chris Amon and future triple title-winner Niki Lauda.
Sainz will be pleased to be involved in such an event for Ferrari when he drives around the Miami Dolphins’ Hard Rock Stadium next month. The Spaniard will depart Ferrari after four seasons with his next destination not yet decided. He will be replaced by seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton at the start of 2025.
Sainz is the only non-Red Bull driver in the last two seasons to win a race. He won in Singapore last year to stop Red Bull from going a season unbeaten – a feat never achieved. Sainz also took victory this year in Australia, with Red Bull winning four of five races in 2024. It has been reported that Audi has made a lucrative contract offer for Sainz to join the team currently operating as Sauberm with the driver’s manager Carlos Onoro remaining tight-lipped.
“Let’s say, it’s an interesting period of time at the moment,” Onoro said. The driver market has been all over the place lately and I think we will see some movements in the upcoming weeks but for the moment, the juggling continues.”
He added when asked whether Sainz’s landing spot will be announced by Miami: “No, no, no! You can sleep well between China and Miami don’t worry! There will be no big news at least coming from us, we’re still playing the game so we’ll see.”
Sainz is remaining relaxed over his future, with the F1 driver knowing what he brings to the table when a team comes knocking. “I think for sure all my best options are still open, which I think is a positive thing and something that obviously requires a bit of time, given the situation of the market,” he told Sky Sports F1 in China. “I think it’s going to take some time for everyone to make their own mind and their own decisions, but the good options are still open.”
