Cole Palmer in angry confrontation with Chelsea coach after controversial Aston Villa draw | Football | Sport

Cole Palmer was caught up in an angry exchange with Chelsea assistant manager Jesus Perez after the Blues’ 2-2 draw with Aston Villa. The pair were furious with referee Craig Pawson for disallowing Axel Disasi’s late goal, with a flock of players crowding around the officials once the full-time whistle had sounded.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side thought that they had completed a sensational comeback at Villa Park on Saturday after going into the half-time break 2-0 down following an own goal from Marc Cucurella and Morgan Rogers’ exquisite solo effort.

Noni Madueke halved the deficit in the 62nd minute before Conor Gallagher levelled the score with nine minutes left on the clock, curling a glorious strike into the top corner from 25 yards. The Blues looked to have secured all three points in the 96th minute when Disasi nodded home from close range after Villa failed to clear their lines.

However, VAR felt that Benoit Badiashile had fouled Diego Carlos when winning the ball before putting the cross in for Disasi to score. The Chelsea star was adjudged to have pushed the defender in the back to give himself the upper hand when jostling for possession. Chelsea were furious with the decision though and swarmed around Pawson to plead their case at full time.

Palmer was among those to approach the official, but he was then caught up in a brief squabble with assistant manager Perez. The England international managed to break through a crowd of players to berate the referee before being pushed away by Perez.

Palmer reacted angrily at the 52-year-old, furious that he had been pulled away from the situation. The pair exchanged angry words on the pitch, with the Blues star aggressively shrugging off the member of staff.
