Drying laundry in certain ways cannot only speed up the process, but it can also help to reduce your energy bill spend.

Air drying is undoubtedly the most wallet-friendly option it doesn’t cost a penny but it’s not always practical and can often lead to damp and musty odours.

As a result, many are forced to use their tumble dryers. Yet, despite their convenience, tumble dryers are notorious appliances for guzzling energy, and not everyone has the luxury of owning one.

Enter the heated airers and dehumidifiers both more economical alternatives. But which one wins in the battle of cost-effectiveness and works the best?

In a bid to shed some light on this dilemma, Gemma Dawn reached out on the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook group, posting: “Hiya, heated airer or dehumidifier with standard airer. Not sure which one to invest in as costs roughly the same.”

Heated airers have risen in popularity in the last few years, with shoppers scrambling to snap them up. They function much like a traditional clothes horse but the rails warm up, essentially acting as mini radiators that help your clothes dry faster.

Drying clothes indoors can be a slow process, particularly in damp conditions. However, throw a dehumidifier into the mix, and you’ll find it sucks the moisture right out of the air, paving the way for your garments to dry quicker than you might expect.

The post received 137 comments, with the majority of them praising the benefits of a dehumidifier over a heated airer. Jackie Rowe stated: “Dehumidifier 100 percent. I tried a heated airer, got fed up having to move the clothes around.”

Kayleigh Radford shared her experience: “Bought a heated airer and didn’t find it dried them any quicker just wasted electricity in my opinion.”

Dawn Chaplin wasn’t impressed either: “I don’t rate heated airers. They only dry the bit of material in contact with it. I don’t even plug mine in.”
