Forgotten PlayStation mascot returns with quality of life improvements aplenty | Gaming | Entertainment

If you grew up in the 1990s, then you’ll be pleased to hear that a forgotten platforming franchise is making a comeback this summer.

Limited Run Games has confirmed that GEX, GEX 2: Enter the Gecko, and GEX 3: Deep Cover Gecko will launch for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC in summer 2025.

A trilogy of Gex games appeared on the PSOne back in the 90s, before the character was abandoned by publisher Eidos Interactive and developer Crystal Dynamics.

Fortunately, however, Limited Run Games is bringing Gex back for modern audiences, complete with a ton of quality of life improvements.

QoL enhancements include the standard save states and rewind support, which should make it easier to reach the end credits.

Limited Run Games will also introduce widescreen support for modern television sets, as well as bonus content for long-time fans.

The Gex Trilogy will feature behind-the-scenes content, such as classic adverts starring the character, not to mention a built-in music player and an interview with the makers of the game.

To get you in the mood for the Gex Trilogy this summer, Limited Run Games has released a new gameplay trailer, which you can find below.

The original GEX is a side-scrolling platformer that made its debut all the way back in 1995.

The development team switched things up for the sequels, which are 3D platformers more akin to what you’d see on the PSOne.

Limited Run explains more: “Tail time is imminent. Through the science of the Carbon Engine, Gex fans will be able to revisit Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko on modern systems for the first time!”

Video game collectors will be pleased to hear that Limited Run Games will make the Gex Trilogy available both physically and digitally when it launches this summer.
