Expert shares three used cars for under £10,000 that are fun to drive

A used car expert has taken to YouTube to recommend a number of popular models that are fun to drive but cost no more than £10,000 to buy.

Rusty Trusty is a YouTuber who regularly posts videos giving advice to viewers looking to buy a used car and warns against vehicle modifications that could cause damage.

In a recent video, Rusty Trusty suggests that drivers looking for an interesting yet affordable used car should consider the coupe version of the BMW 1-Series, stating it has attractive styling and plenty of power.

He explained: “The BMW 1-Series is a really good enthusiast’s car. I mean, it’s literally a two-door 3.0-litre six-cylinder, which is the perfect formula, and the coupe version is quite a nice looking car in my opinion.

“I also believe that these cars will inflate in price; they’re definitiely going to be future classics. And I would say they’re probably sitting at the very bottom of their depreciation at the minute.”

Built between 2007 and 2013, Rusty Trusty noted that the BMW 1-Series Coupe was more attractive than the more popular hatchback variant but still has four seats and a small yet practical boot.

Whilst a wide range of engines were offered, including an economical 1.8-litre diesel, the most powerful six-cylinder engine can accelerate from 0-62mph in 5.3 seconds.

Motorists can choose from a wide range of used examples for under £9,000, with some higher mileage examples being offered for closer to £5,000.

Another model that Rusty Trusty recommended to motoring fanatics was the Nissan Z Series, with the 350Z and 370Z currently being the most affordable choices.

He continued: “For some reason I couldn’t really decide between the [Nissan] 350Z and the 370Z, and the price range on these really varies, but you can still pick one up for under £10,000.

“At the end of the day, you’re buying a classic, old-school, no-nonsense sportscar. You’re buying a 3.5 or 3.6 V6 engine that drives the rear wheels. What more do you want?”

Finally, the YouTuber advised that the best choice for a car that is both enjoyable to drive and practical to live with should consider a Honda Civic Type R.

He added: “To be honest, this car is probably one of the best enthusiast cars ever made, quite similar to the [Mazda] MX5 in that respect, but just a really solid option.

“There’s quite a lot to choose from too. It’s weird because each generation looks slightly different in each country, however I’m going to try and mainly focus on the EP3 generation [2001-05], but generally you can’t go wrong with a Civic.”
