James Martin retains his 3 stone weight loss with this diet

For many people looking to , keeping it off is often much harder than the initial push to shed the pounds.

British chef has managed to do just that since 2005 when he lost an impressive three stone through a major lifestyle change.

The 51-year-old took to the Strictly Come Dancing Ballroom for almost the entirety of the show, finishing in fourth place.

During his stint on the BBC show, James’s figure changed significantly as a result of intensive fitness training and of course, constant dancing.

Almost a decade on, the Saturday Morning host has retained his trimmed-down figure which he credited to his diet.

Speaking about his weight loss in the past, James claimed that eating fish twice a day is one of the game-changing lifestyle adaptions he has made to maintain his physique.

Despite his culinary expertise, he doesn’t rely on super complicated fish dishes. In fact, they couldn’t be more simple.

The chef said: “What could be simpler than pan-frying a little bit of salmon and serving it with some great new potatoes and seasonal veg?”

According to Kristen Smith, MS, registered dietitian and spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, eating fish can help people with their weight-loss goals, as long as they eat the right kind.

Speaking to a MyFitnessPal blogger, she explained: “Most fish are high in protein but contain fewer calories than other protein sources, like poultry or beef, says.

“Protein-rich foods can help increase satiety and prevent overeating at or between meals. Moreover, many fish are also loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, an essential nutrient that promotes heart and brain health.”

The dietician recommended canned white fish, wild salmon, halibut, sardines and cod for weight loss.

James also revealed that he limits snacks to one food group – fresh fruit and vegetables. He claimed that in most cases, fresh fruit replaces the processed treats he may be craving.

Another small lifestyle change that has made a big difference to the chef is cutting out fizzy drinks.

The Hampshire local has removed fizzy drinks from his diet altogether and has made an effort to consume the recommended two litres of water every day. This is an easy swap anyone can try and is a great way to promote a healthy diet without having to restrict food groups.

The chef said: “Losing weight is a balance of everything, it’s getting off your arse and doing more and not eating less, but eating a variety of different things.

“Water is the key. As you get older, I realised I don’t need to go to the gym, I’m working [in the kitchen] all the time anyway.

“Water keeps your brain healthy and it keeps your skin healthy and it keeps you focused – it’s crazy when you give up soft drinks how much more your brain feels alive, it’s very weird.”
