Outgoing Red Bull chief technology officer Adrian Newey could not help but smile when asked if he wanted to join Ferrari at the Monaco Grand Prix. The 65-year-old is departing Christian Horner’s outfit at the start of 2025, and rumours have sparked that he could link up with Lewis Hamilton in Maranello.

Both Newey and Hamilton have openly spoken about their desire to work with one another, a dream that could finally be realised alongside the likes of Charles Leclerc and Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur next year.

There has been no confirmation that Newey will head to Italy, but the British engineer may have hinted at his next venture in motorsport. In Monaco, Newey was captured on video by a group of fans asking them to sign their Ferrari merchandise.

Newey obliged, as the vast majority of figures on the grid are happy to sign caps and shirts of rival teams, but the Brit was then asked directly: “You want to come to Ferrari?” Putting his pen away after signing a large Ferrari flag, Newey did not reply but had a big grin on his face before returning back to the paddock.

The footage was released just a day after Hamilton was also caught signing a Ferrari cap. However, the Brit’s exchange with fans was made even more awkward as Mercedes chief Toto Wolff whizzed past on his scooter at the same time.

Hamilton’s Ferrari move has already been confirmed but it remains to be seen whether he will be joined by Newey, who is widely regarded as one of the sport’s top minds. McLaren, Mercedes, Alpine and Aston Martin have all also been linked with Newey.

But Hamilton insisted that it would be a “privilege” to work with Newey and join forces for the first time in F1. “If I was to do a list of people I would love to work with, he would absolutely be at the top of it,” Hamilton said at the Miami Grand Prix.

“Adrian has such a great history, track record, he has done an amazing job through his career, engaging with teams, the knowledge that he has. It would be a privilege to work with him.”
