Euro 2024 LIVE: England team leaked ahead of opener as Man Utd transfer audition cancelled | Football | Sport

The Netherlands are set to be without Frenkie de Jong at Euro 2024.

The midfielder, who has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United since Erik ten Hag’s arrival at Old Trafford, has been struggling with an ankle injury since April.

De Jong was named in the Dutch 26-man squad nonetheless, with Ronald Koeman hoping that the Barca playmaker would return to full fitness during the early stages of the competition.

However, the Netherlands have now announced that De Jong has lost the ‘race against time’ and will not play any part in the tournament.

Speaking after the news broke of his injury, De Jong said on social media: “I’m sad and disappointed that I won’t make it to the Euros. We’ve been doing a lot of work in the past few weeks, but my ankle needs more time, unfortunately.

“It’s a dream and the greatest honour to represent our country in a major tournament, but now, like the entire nation, I will cheer for our team from the sidelines.”
