Debbie Madewell said: “Soda crystals on a hot wash, once a month or so. Wash out the soap dispenser drawer regularly. Clean out the filter regularly.

“Dry the inner rubber ring around the door, every time – always make sure it’s switched off when doing such things – except for the soda crystals wash, of course!”

Sandra Thornhill commented: “I use soda crystals in every wash but also do a white vinegar clean out with the soda crystals.”

Cheryl Mackie also said: “Soda soda crystals on the hottest wash.”

Other suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans included using white vinegar, machine machine cleaners and a dishwasher tablet.

Hannah Woodhead said: “If you use fabric conditioner, it is a build up and it is rotting. Do a cleaning empty load with white vinegar.”

Lisa Marie Brown replied: “A dishwasher tablet on a hot wash.”

Teresa Nikolic commented: “Use a washing machine cleaner and always leave the door open when it’s not in use.”
