Man Utd news: Marcus Rashford makes feelings clear on Ten Hag staying | Football | Sport

The pair were barely on speaking terms and ignored each other at times during a season in which United finished eighth, their lowest-ever Prem finish. But the forward was pleased to hear that Ten Hag will continue in his role at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag revealed that a summit with the new United chiefs in Ibiza led to him being told of their decision to keep him as boss, despite talks with Thomas Tuchel, though the Dutchman did land himself in hot water with the club for opening up on their discussions to TV station NOS.

“Manchester United disturbed my holiday, they suddenly stood at my doorstep,” Ten Hag said. “They flew to me in Ibiza. INEOS took their time. They are new in football, it’s normal to reflect the season. It’s no secret that they talked with multiple candidates.

“Here in Holland this is ‘not done,’ in fact, it’s not even allowed here. But in England they have different rules and laws. As in any organisation, and that seems very sensible to me, there is an evaluation. Conclusions were drawn from there. The new leadership is playing football for the first time.”

Under Ten Hag, Rashford wants to rediscover his form of 2022/23 where he scored 30 goals in all competitions, fire the club back into the Champions League and earn his place back in the England squad.

The 26-year-old was said to be shocked when he discovered the news of Southgate’s omission as he joined the likes of Jack Grealish, Jordan Henderson and James Maddison as high-profile stars not involved in the summer campaign.

He has been forced to watch a stagnant England attack in Germany receive waves of criticism, with his brother and agent of the opinion that Rashford could have made the difference in the opening two group matches of Euro 2024.

But for Rashford, the focus is on next season with United alongside Ten Hag as he bids to mend their relationship and work together on restoring the Red Devils to their former glory.
