The UK’s ‘cheapest’ chippy that’s getting rave reviews | UK | News

There’s nothing better than a perfect portion of fish and chips – and it’s all the more joyful if it comes at a decent price.

A pair of TikTokers decided to put that theory to the test by investigating some of the most expensive and cheapest versions of the UK’s favourite dish.

Ryan and Jade – whose account @live_thedash chronicles their account of “travelling the world with hand luggage” – ventured to posh London restaurant Kerridge’s £32 offering of “fried Cornish haddock” and chips.

As well as what they say is the cheapest: Tower Fisheries in Blackpool which has cod and chips for £5.75 a potion. Their fish and chip clip has now been liked more than 135,000 times – with hundreds of keen foodies weighing in with their opinions. The UK average price for the dish is £9.

Ryan said: “We’re in Blackpool and we’ve just been to Tower Fisheries – far better than the one in London.”

TV chef Tom Kerridge has been making headlines since it emerged that his restaurant is selling the luxurious take on fish and chips with a side salad costing an extra £7.

And, it seems, there are plenty who agree with the pair’s verdict on the Blackpool chippy in the town’s Topping Street – with hundreds taking to travel review site TripAdvisor to share their thoughts.

One said: “Came here with husband and two children after watching YouTubers visit. I’m not usually a fan of batter on fish but this batter was lovely and crispy. Chips were fresh.

“Lovely staff and amazingly good value for money. What a bargain!” said another before adding “the food was amazing for the price”

Another impressed fan said: “Excellent value and delicious fish and chips. Try the curry sauce – fabulous!”

And the praise didn’t stop there – with many more giving their nod of approval over on Google Reviews. One said: “Brilliant place and great value, decided to give it a try after a certain YouTuber went.

“Staff friendly, great service, good portion size, amazing value for money.” Meanwhile a man has been left feeling rather crestfallen after shelling out for his fish and chips.

The sad-looking portion arrived looking rather suspicious, prompting him to share his dining disaster on Reddit for public opinion.

He posted a photo of his meal with the caption: “I ordered ‘Fish & Chips’ from a local food court and this is what I received.”

The image shows the fish, but not as you’d expect. Instead of a hearty piece of fish encased in crispy batter, he was served five small breaded fish portions alongside crinkle-cut chips.

Express.co.uk has approached Tower Fisheries for comment.
