Cleaning an oven glass door is one of the most hated household chores that many of us put off as long as possible due to how frustrating it is.
Nicola Lewis, a cleaning expert who has teamed up with the home appliance manufacturer Hisense, has shared with the Express that the longer this job is put off, the harder it becomes to clean an oven door properly.
Nicola said: “Oven doors are difficult to clean because they accumulate stubborn grease, food splatters, and baked-on residues over time, often requiring stronger cleaning agents and vigorous scrubbing to remove effectively.”
However, this is an incredibly easy way to get rid of stubborn burn marks and stains caked onto oven glass without having to scrub at it, as all you need is one ingredient you likely already have in your kitchen cupboard – baking soda.
Nicola said: “This method is super effective, non-toxic and avoids the use of harsh chemicals found in commercial oven cleaners.”
How to clean an oven door properly
It may seem strange, but baking soda is one of the best ways to clean an oven door effortlessly as is alkaline, which means it can naturally dissolve acidic grease, food stains and burn marks.
Nicola said: “I find using a natural solution is just as good for removing burned food or grease stains.
“Bicarb of soda is a mild abrasive, so it naturally helps break down dirt and grime without having to use harsh chemicals. This is great for our environment and our health.”
Method
All you need to do is mix together baking soda and water in a small bowl until it forms a paste.
Spread this paste all over the oven glass door and leave it to sit for at least 15 to 20 minutes to give the baking soda time to break down the grease and loosen the grime.
If your oven is extremely stained then leave the baking soda solution on for longer.
Once the time is up, use a clean and damp close to wipe away the baking soda paste, give it a rinse with hot water and then use a dry cloth to polish the oven glass to remove any streaks.
Your oven door should now be sparkling clean, but you should clean it regularly to prevent any greasy build-up on the glass in the future.
Nicola said: “I recommend cleaning your oven every now to two months. This obviously depends on how frequently you use it however regular cleaning helps prevent stubborn stains and grease from accumulating, making it easier to maintain over time.”
