Adding a water feature to your garden can make your outdoor space more stunning, with the serene sound of trickling water that can help you relax this summer.
But those who may be strapped for cash might not be able to justify forking out for an extensive one. That’s why one woman has shown fans how they can make their own homemade water feature on a budget.
Beth, who posts online as @bethsabode, claims can be a surprisingly straightforward and rewarding project, which can be completed for as little as £25. All you need is a few key supplies – like a water pump, basin, and decorative stones.
In the video, which has gained more than 3,600 likes, the gardening expert explained: “You don’t need to spend £100 on a water feature. You can make one yourself for literally £25 and I’m going to show you how.
“Normally, I’m a big believer that garden centres are so overpriced, but I got the bargain of the year at my local garden centre today. This huge terracotta pot was supposed to be originally £70 and I got it for £12.50.”
However, she noted that you could go cheaper by buying a £4 pot from B&M. After that, she filled up the pot with pieces of broken paving slabs and cardboard as “chances are what you’re actually going to plant in here won’t have roots that are deep enough to go to the bottom of the pot.”
Then you need to add a layer of compost to top and used a dish, or shallow pot and put it “deep enough to completely cover the pump of the little solar fountain that you’ve got.” She advised: “If in doubt, it is probably better to go deeper rather than shallower because otherwise it will work.”
For the fountain, she used a Stella Fountain, which is available on TikTok shop for under £10 and decorated around the outside with flowers and decorative stones. The finished result was a stunning water feature, perfect for the centre of the garden.
Social media users were stunned by the clip as they took to the comments to praise her hard work. One user said: “This is exactly what I want for my garden!! Thank you. Looks so great.”
Another added: “It is amazing am going to do this great and so easy to.” Meanwhile, a third wrote: “You should put some stones on the terracotta plate too, bees and other bugs can drown quite easily if they don’t have anything to crawl up on.”
