Urgent warning as ‘woke’ London is West’s anti-Semitism capital, blasts Israeli minister | UK | News

London is the capital of western anti-semitism, according to Israel’s diaspora minister, who warned about the perils of a de facto open-door immigration policy allowing extremism to flourish. Amichai Chikli claimed that the toxic cocktail of far-Left “wokeism” and Islamic extremism has made the UK’s capital city unsafe for Jewish people.

The Israeli hardliner told a press conference of European reporters: “The anti-Semitism we see today in the West is the worst since the 1930s and it is because of a ‘red and green’ alliance – the combination of the radical Left and the radical Islam groups that work together.”

London, according to the minister, was the worst example of this phenomenon.

Speaking about the UK, Mr Chikli, who is also in charge of anti-semitism affairs said: “This is a centre of Western civilisation – the country of the Magna Carta and one of the leading democracies of the West with a rich legacy of freedom of speech, of human rights. But it seems what is happening now in Britain is that freedom of speech no longer exists.”

Mr Chikli is not without controversy both within Israel and amongst the Israeli diaspora.

In September 2023, his scheduled visit to the JW3 Jewish community centre in West Hampstead was pulled because so many British Jews protested.

He has not pulled his punches either when it comes to talking about allied politicians. Last month he compared Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron to Neville Chamberlain, after the former Conservative leader suggested that the UK may formally recognise Palestinian statehood.

The 42-year-old dished out sharp-tongued criticism of other western leaders during the Europe Israel Press Association meeting. He branded Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez an “anti-semite”, after the leader of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party said he had “genuine doubts” over whether Israel was complying with international humanitarian law.

Mr Chikli also said President Biden had succumbed to “political pressure” by attacking Israel’s campaign in Gaza, adding: “Our enemies are Europe’s enemies. Our enemies are the enemies of Western civilisation.”

Addressing the anti-semitism seen in London, he said: “And this isn’t just a problem for the Jews but for the British people – when even the statue of Churchill needs its own security. Today in the UK, Jews are hiding their yarmulkes and their Magen Davids [stars of David]. They know that if they speak Hebrew on the subway they might get hit. And this is the reality for Jews in Europe.”

The senior member of the ruling Likud party said that Western democracies must also be keenly aware of the threats posed by liberal immigration policies.

He said: “If you think that anyone who is coming now from Algeria or Iraq or Syria can be part of Western liberal society just by crossing the border – you need to understand that it is not that simple.

“It is extremely dangerous for Western countries to have this approach because many organisations can take advantage of it.”

He added that governments must be aware of the dangers of festering extremism in the West as a result of the conflict, saying: “What is happening in the mosques? In the schools? In the UK you have a very large Muslim population – most of them have nothing to do with this but a few people are being radicalised and that is going to have serious consequences.”
