Despite King Charles reportedly cutting off private funding for Prince Andrew’s security detail at Royal Lodge in a bid to oust him, his “patience” is not limitless, it has been claimed.
Prince Andrew is required to “repair, renew, uphold, clean and keep in repair and, where necessary, rebuild” the mansion, according to the 75-year lease agreement granted to him in 2003 by the Crown Estate.
Andrew has been refusing to leave the 30-bedroom property in Windsor – thought to be worth £30million.
Speaking about the feud between the two brothers, the Daily Mail’s royal editor, Rebecca English discussed the issue on Palace Confidential: “The King is funding this out of his own pocket and they [sources] said to me his patience is not limitless on this.”
King Charles and Prince Andrew are currently locked in a “standoff” despite being offered the use of nearby Frogmore Cottage, which underwent a £2.4million renovation in 2019.
Daily Mail’s diary editor, Richard Eden told Palace Confidential there could be a “tense atmosphere” at Balmoral, where the brothers are residing for summer.
He added: “The property is owned by the crown estate, there’s no great reason to get rid of him other than the costs of security which the King is paying for. But, the King has a lot of money and it just seems petty that he is trying to get rid of him.”
