How to grow more lavender flowers fast with gardener’s 1 task to do now

Lavenders offer plentiful flowers in rich colours and a beautiful scent all wrapped up in a low-maintenance package.

Just one plant in full flower can have a huge impact as the mass of flowers the plant produces creates a haze of intense colour, even in the middle of a damp British summer.

To get the best out of your lavender plants, gardening expert and founder of GoTreeQuotes Ben McInerney claimed that pruning is “crucial”.

He said: “As a certified arborist, I’ve seen firsthand how proper pruning can transform not just trees, but also ornamental plants like lavender.”

The expert added: “Pruning lavender in late August or September is crucial for maintaining its shape and promoting healthy growth.”

“This timing allows the plant to heal before winter while preventing premature growth that could be damaged by frost.”

Ben explained that pruning lavender improves flower production as pruned plants often “produce more abundant and bushier blooms the following year”.

As well as this, pruning can also help extend the plant’s lifespan as the expert claimed that “pruning can add years to your lavender’s life”.

How to prune lavender

Gardeners first need to wait for the flowers to fade – this usually occurs in late August or early September.

Next, gather the tools – use clean, sharp pruning shears to prevent disease transmission.

After gardeners need to assess the plant. They should be looking for the woody base and the green, leafy growth above it.

Prune about two-thirds of the current year’s growth, but “never cut into the woody base”.

The key is to shape as you go. Aim for a rounded, mound-like shape to promote air circulation.

Pruning lavender doesn’t just make your garden look great it can also boost your curb appeal and property value, claimed the pro.

Ben said: “From my experience working with landscape professionals through GoTreeQuotes.com, I’ve seen how proper lavender pruning can increase property values and curb appeal.

“One of our clients saw a 15 percent increase in their home’s perceived value after implementing a rigorous lavender care routine.”
