Liverpool player ratings vs Man Utd as trio get 9/10 in sublime win | Football | Sport

Liverpool enjoyed some Old Trafford revenge on Manchester United as Arne Slot’s perfect start at the Merseyside club continued with a convincing away win.

Luis Diaz’s first-half brace put the Reds in control in Manchester before Mohamed Salah put the game beyond the Red Devils on 56 minutes.

The visitors had chances to rub salt in United’s wounds but didn’t take them. Still they secured just a third win at United’s home ground in their last 14 trips down the M62.

Express Sport rates and slates the Liverpool players after a stylish and statement victory…

Liverpool player ratings vs Man Utd

Alisson – 7

Great save from Noussair Mazraoui after being unsighted in the first half before a smart low stop from Joshua Zirkzee early in the second half. Denied the Dutchman again after a header just after the hour mark.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7

Had an early goal ruled out for offside after copying Steven Gerrard’s iconic Old Trafford celebration. But then produced some superb passes and was dependable defensively against Marcus Rashford. Smiled on his way off the pitch this time when subbed.

Ibrahima Konate – 8

Brilliant positioning to consistently thwart United attacks with interceptions and clearances. Incredibly accomplished performance and no doubt whatsoever he is the best partner to Virgil van Dijk despite Jarell Quansah’s promise.

Virgil van Dijk – 8

Dominant throughout, with his only blemishes allowing a Mazrouai shot to go through his legs and being yellow-carded for a foul on Bruno Fernandes. Imperious in the air and on the floor and even stepped high up to win possession a few times.

Andy Robertson – 7

Strong in the battle against Alejandro Garnacho whom he helped keep quiet. Got forward well too.

Ryan Gravenberch – 9

A real stand-out showing just weeks after the failed Martin Zubimendi pursuit. Really good play in the build-up to Alexander-Arnold’s offside goal. In the perfect place to cut out a Fernandes pass on one dangerous attack and won the ball back for the opening Liverpool goal.

Alexis Mac Allister – 6

Survived an early injury scare but was then below his usual standards on the ball. Bullied Kobbie Mainoo to win the ball in the build-up to Mohamed Salah’s goal, though, and more settled in possession in the second half.

Mohamed Salah – 9

Liverpool’s most influential player bar none. Was narrowly offside when Trent Alexander-Arnold scored then prodcued a superb cross for Diaz’s first and a perfect pass for his second. Scored his 15th career goal vs United before the hour mark and then thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the game.

Dominik Szoboszlai – 7

Had two industrious but frustrating games at Old Trafford last season but was better here. Was guilty of wasting some pormising first-half attacks but then did well to duck and allow Diaz to score. Fed the ball to Salah for Liverpool’s third. Had an easy chance to make it 4-0 and, bizarrely, didn’t shoot from yards out.

Luis Diaz – 9

Initially poor in possession with first decisions and touches letting him down – then scored a fine header after good positioning. Followed it up with a beautiful swept finish after robbing Casemiro of possession for the second goal. Looked gutted to be brought off before he could try for a hat-trick but had been clattered by Matthijs de Ligt just before.

Diogo Jota – 6

Worked hard off the ball but didn’t get too much joy against De Ligt or Lisandro Martinez on it in an inefficient display. Withdrawn on 76 minutes.

Substitutes

Cody Gakpo – 6

On for Diaz in the 66th minute. Headed wide from a Szoboszlai cross shortly after coming on.

Darwin Nunez – 6

On for Jota in the 76th minute. Curled one shot wide of the far post late on.

Conor Bradley – 6

On for Alexander-Arnold in the 76th minute. Should’ve had an assist but Szoboszlai failed to shoot.

Kostas Tsimikas – N/A

On for Robertson in the 83rd minute.
