How to clean windows without streaks fast – no need for vinegar or baking soda

Window cleaning can often feel like a day-long slog, leading many of us to delay this pesky chore. But there’s a nifty home method that promises to spruce up your panes in no time and without those frustrating streaks.

Over on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips and Tricks Facebook page, fans have been swapping stories about their top window cleaning hacks.

Miriam Ahhmed couldn’t wait to share her gratitude, posting: “I want to thank every member of this group who posted about cleaning windows without smearing.

“I used to use Elbow Grease’s window and glass cleaner with kitchen roll – big mistake. It always left smears, especially when the sun was out.”

Switching tactics, she said: “I then tried washing up liquid with hot water in a spray bottle and a squeegee and it gave me streak-free and gleaming windows.”

In less than sixty seconds, her living room window was transformed and the results were nothing short of spectacular.

Miriam beamed, saying: “It took less than one minute to clean the whole living room window and the results were astounding. I’m so happy right now and can’t wait to get the rest of the house done.”

Fellow cleaning enthusiasts quickly chimed in with similar successes. Sally Fallon revealed: “I have started to do mine with water and washing up liquid and it’s amazing.”

Maryann Black swears by the same trick for mirrors, claiming: “I use washing up liquid for mirrors too. I just use the cheapest washing-up liquid from Morrisons that’s 55p. The only thing that works.”

Dean Scott, with over a decade and a half in the window cleaning business, advised to ditch all the fancy products and old wives’ tales like vinegar. He recommended sticking to washing up liquid, a microfibre cloth, and a squeegee.

Mirrors, too, can benefit from this simple solution, as Debbie Nugent shared: “I always use this method too, but it’s also good for mirrors.”

Linda Doyle boasted: “I clean my windows that way and have them done in no time.”

But other followers of Mrs Hinch reckon that if you’ve got a top-notch microfibre cloth, you can chuck the chemicals even the washing-up liquid.

Sharing a snap of her Marigold microfibre wonder cloth, Abigail Adams commented: “100 percent agree. No chemicals, just water and this cloth. Windows will look perfect.”

In harmony, Lisa Simon stated: “This cloth is amazing. I have not found anything as fabulous.”
