Brian May ‘never been so touched’ by Queen family surprise as shares health news | Music | Entertainment

Earlier this week, fans around the world expressed their love and support for Sir Brian May, who shared he’d suffered a minor stroke.

The 77-year-old, who had a heart attack in 2020, almost lost the ability to play the guitar but is now thankfully on the mend.

To cheer him up and spur him on, the wider Queen family sent him a surprise music video, which the rock legend has now posted on Instagram.

Headed up by We Will Rock You musical writer Ben Elton, a group of Sir Brian’s friends and collaborators performed a rendition of his solo single Driven by You, released a day after Freddie Mercury died in 1991.

Members of the Queen and Adam Lambert band, singer Kerry Ellis and even his old Smile bandmate Tim Staffell featured, alongside the Queen guitarist’s late driver and bodyguard Phil Webb.

Expressing his thanks and a health update, Sir Brian wrote: “Wow !!!!!!! Driven by YOU !!! I don’t know when I have ever been so touched —- thanks a million, guys – I love you all. I’m working hard on arm rehabilitation and resting !!! The only thing I’m allowed to do is watch the cricket. So I’m not complaining too much ! I WILL be back up and running when this recovery period is over. Well, ‘running’ might be a bit much to expect ! ha ha. But definitely rockin’. This is such an amazing rendition of my old solo song – thanks a million, dear friends. And thanks to ALL of you out there who have let me know you care. Lots of love – Bri.”
