Male police officers have complained unisex uniforms are ‘crushing their testicles’ – with the situation being slammed as ‘woke nonsense’.
A survey was launched about the uniforms, used by Gwent Police in Wales, in July this year.
Neither men or women wearing the uniforms were pleased with results, according to Belinda Goodwin, the police union’s national board member and wellbeing lead.
Speaking to the Sun, she said: “During a survey, Gwent police male officers complained of experiencing crushed testicles.
“We have heard female officers facing discomfort because of the unisex trousers.
“All of this plays into how officers and staff feel on the job, and that cannot be understated.”
Benjamin Elks, of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, slammed the situation as ‘woke nonsense’.
He added: “This farce is a distraction for officers who should be out catching criminals.”
“Police forces should cut out waste and put bobbies on the beat.”
Launching the survey into uniforms in the area in July, Police Federation Welsh Co-lead Zac Mader said police officers faced a ‘postcode lottery’ in terms of their uniform.
He said: “There isn’t one route to buying uniform, which means potentially different standards of uniform across the service.
“We want consistency with police uniform, with the highest minimum standards and to get rid of the postcode lottery.
“We want a uniform that is environmentally friendly and that has been ethically sourced.
“And we believe that there are future opportunities with procurement of uniform and buying power.”
