Owner of the YouTube channel The Clean Loft, Tendy Takaidza, demonstrated to her 32,500 subscribers how she made a “gross” oven look brand new.
“This oven has not been cleaned for about two years,” Tendy disclosed on the cleaning tutorial.
Tendy said: “I’m going to show the easy way to clean an extremely dirty oven… the transformation is going to amaze you.”
Having already tried baking soda to clean the oven, the former housekeeper admitted it didn’t work for her.
“And for that reason I had to use this commercial grade product called Easy-Off Fume Free Oven Cleaner,” said Tendy. “It does the job faster and with less elbow grease.”
Also “safe” on oven glass doors, Tendy did add that the product “does have a strong smell”.
She also recommended using the product in a well-ventilated space, so windows should be opened when using this cleaning product.
As the oven she’s working on is highly unclean, Tendy brought in reinforcement, such as the Pumie Scouring Stick, “strong” paper towels such as Bounty or non-scratch sponge.
“For your safety, I recommend you put on a mask and safety glasses because if this product gets on your skin or eyes, it will cause some irritation,” Tendy added.
Cleaning the oven
First Tendy removes any debris with a scraper, even using a hoover attachment to suck up all the dirt.
Next, she protects any heating elements with foil paper and then shakes the oven cleaner and applies is to the oven, including the oven glass door.
The product should be left on the baked-on grease for a minimum of two hours, but overnight would be preferable.
Tendy then wipes away the years of baked-on grease with paper towels, then uses a non-scratch sponge, such as S.O.S Steel Wool Pads or Brillo Soap Pads for extra cleanliness.
The wet pumice stone is only needed to remove extra tough burnt on spots that easily come off once rubbed.
“It’s not going to scratch your oven for as long as it’s wet,” Tendy promised. “Now all you need to do is wipe again.”
The last step is to use a wet cloth to remove all the product residue and you should be left with a sparkling clean oven.
For those wanting to go the extra mile, Tendy advised using glass cleaner to really make the oven shine.
