Elton John is one of Britain’s best-selling musicians of all time with a career spanning five decades, and it only makes sense he has a luxurious real estate portfolio as well.

His incredible homes include an English estate near the Royal Family’s palace in Windsor where his nan used to live, two neighbouring mansions in Beverly Hills and holiday homes throughout Europe.

In the past, Elton has said he loved decorating his homes and it became a passion of his in 1990 after returning home from rehab.

In an interview with Architectural Digest, Elton said: “When I came out of rehab ten years ago, I realised that life is so much more beautiful than my house reflected. I wanted a normal life, a traditional country house….

“Ever since then, I’ve always had a decorating project underway, and because I always want to do more, each house is a work in progress. If I weren’t a musician, I would love to be a decorator.”

Here is an inside look at some of the luxury properties the Rocket Man singer has accumulated throughout his incredible career.

Windsor Countryside Manor

Woodside, also nicknamed by Elton as “the hub” is a traditional 18th-century home where the singer lives with his husband David Furnish, and their children Elijah and Zachary.

Elton also used to share the home with his grandmother who lived in an apartment in the orangery. In an interview with Architectural Digest, Elton said: “She looked after me when I was starting out.

“It was my turn to look after her. I used to say to her, ‘Nan, let me make these rooms nice for you.’ And she would always say, ‘No, dear, you save your money.’ After she died, I wanted to create something in her memory.”

Elton first bought this property after the success of his album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in 1974 for £400,000, which would equate to around £4.2 million today.

London Townhome

Elton’s Queendale townhouse is located in Holland, Park London where many British celebrities live, including the Beckham family, Robbie Williams and Simon Cowell.

Most of the furniture inside was originally inspired by Freddie Mercury after Elton visited and was amazed by the late Queen singer’s blond collection.

In an interview with Architectural Digest, Elton said: “Freddie had a tallboy of Karelian birch that was so beautiful it could almost have been rare stone, blond wood glows with the colors of the sun.”

However it is believed Elton sold most of his collection at an auction in 2003, but the singer showed off the previously unseen library in a social media post after he took a picture of himself holding up a t-shirt Victoria Beckham had designed for an LGBT charity.

He captioned the picture: “Getting our #Pride on with these cool @victoriabeckham t-shirts benefitting the @aktcharity. Proceeds go to help homeless LGBGTQ+ youth. Pick one up so you can celebrate Pride and give back @davidfurnish #ListenWithoutPrejudice.”

The musician first bought his Holland Park home in 1992. It is unknown how much the property is worth but mansions in the area are estimated to be worth around £10 million.

Summer Villa in Nice

Elton’s 1920s villa in Nice, France was bought by the musician as a secluded getaway for his family and he is known to have hosted many celebrity friends there throughout the year.

He is known for having had Prince Harry and Meghan Markle along with their son Prince Archie stay there for a private holiday in 2019.

At the time, Elton tweeted: “After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquillity of our home.”

The home was painted bright pink for a while and is now a softer yellow colour, and is known to have a pool, lush gardens and a big art collection.

It is not known when exactly Elton bought his French home in the 1990s, but it is believed the house is upwards of £15 million.

Two Los Angeles Mansions

During lockdown in 2020, Elton and his family stayed in their two homes in Beverly Hills, California which are right next to each other.

Elton bought one of the homes in 2012 for $8.5 million and then bought the house next door in 2021.

The musician first bought the 5,000-square-foot property after his first son was born as a family home and the house was first built in the 1960s.

The first house has five bedrooms, four bathrooms and two swimming pools, and is known to have been decorated with lots of colour with an impressive collection of paintings in every room by artists such as Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, and Philip Taaffe.

In an interview with Architectural Digest, Elton said: “Everything is centred around the art. Certainly, there was a family slant in the art we chose.

“We focused on things that are colourful and positive and celebrations of life.”
