If you’ve been mulling buying an iPad but have been waiting for that rarest of things – an Apple iPad sale – then today could be the day to take the plunge. Apple rarely discounts its famous tablets but other retailers sometimes do, and we’ve spotted a great iPad deal as part of the Amazon Prime Big Deal Days event that’s running on Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 October.

The 9th-gen iPad is on sale for a cut-price £265 from Amazon, which is significantly cheaper than the usual price of £329. Apple doesn’t sell this iPad anymore but it’s still got plenty of legs with a big 10.2-inch screen, Home Button, decent speakers and a slim build that lets it easily slip into most bags.

According to Amazon price comparison site Camelcamelcamel, the lowest ever price this iPad has previously sold for is £279.97, so the new £265 price is the cheapest this Apple slate has ever been. It comes with 64GB storage and charges via Lightning cable.

Though newer iPads exist, including the 10th-gen iPad and recent iPad Air and iPad Pro models, the 9th-gen iPad is still great for casual web browsing, Netflix binges, emailing, and all the regular things most people want an iPad for in the first place. It’s not the most powerful iPad, but you may not need a high-spec iPad if your needs are relatively simple.

This 9th-gen iPad is actually the iPad we own and use. You might expect us to be using the latest Apple tech, but we’ve found this three-year-old iPad more than enough for our needs. We’re not editing 4K video or mixing multitrack songs on our iPad, and you probably won’t either. The tablet should continue to get software updates for the next couple of years, too.
