Prince Harry has detailed two comments allegedly made by Prince William during a rare joint interview with the two brothers, when he was “training to get to the front line”.
In his bombshell memoir Spare, released in January 2023, Harry described the interaction that was had between William, himself, and reporters.
Harry writes of the moment: “We agreed to a rare joint interview, in an aeroplane hangar at Shawbury, during which Willy griped endlessly about my habits.”
Harry continues to speak about two comments made by his older brother, and continued: “Harry’s a slob, he said. Harry snores.”
The Duke of Sussex went on to share his thoughts about the accusations, writing how he “cleaned up” after himself and “didn’t snore”, and if he did, it would have been “impossible for his brother to hear, as their rooms were separated by thick walls”.
King Charles’s youngest son goes on to explain how he tried to diffuse the accusations made with the reporters. He writes: “The reporters were having fits of giggles about it all, but I cut in: Lies! Lies!”
He further adds: “That only made them laugh harder. Willy too. I laughed as well, because we often bantered like that, but when I look back on it now, I can’t help but wonder if there wasn’t something else at play.”
Prince Harry writes: “I was training to get to the front line, the same place Willy had been training to get, but the Palace had scuttled his plans. The Spare, sure, let him run around a battlefield like a chicken with its head cut off, if that’s what he likes.”
Prince William and other members of the Royal Family have never commented on the contents of Spare.
During Prince Harry’s 10 years in the Army, he undertook two operational tours of duty in Afghanistan and qualified as an Apache Aircraft Commander.
Among the most revealing and controversial anecdotes shared by Harry in his book, was how he killed 25 people while serving with the British Army during his two spells touring Afghanistan.
Harry’s time in the Armed Forces was not without controversy, however, as it was considered a major threat to the lives of those he served with due to his royal status.
In a statement when he left the Armed Forces in 2015, Harry described the “tough decision” to rejoin civilian life.
He continued: “I consider myself incredibly lucky to have had the chance to do some very challenging jobs and have met many fantastic people in the process. Inevitably, most good things come to an end and I am at a crossroads in my military career.”
The Prince lost all of his military patronages as a result of his and his wife Meghan Markle’s decision to quit senior royal duties in 2020 by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
Prince Harry’s relationship with Royal Family members became strained after quitting royal life and relocating to Montecito, California, with his wife, Meghan Markle, and two children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.
As well as releasing the bombshell memoir, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a docuseries on the streaming platform, Netflix, detailing their experiences within the Firm and further feuds between family members.
