How to remove stains from carpets without carpet cleaner or bleach

Carpets add a touch of warmth and cosiness to any home, not to mention they’re amazing at keeping the cold out. But when it comes to keeping them clean, that’s where the real headache begins.

Trying to tackle carpet stains can be a right pain coffee, wine, or grub can dive deep into the fibres, making them a nightmare to get out, no matter how hard you scrub.

But before you splash out on pricey carpet cleaners, Karrie Truman, the woman behind Happy Money Saver, has shared a DIY concoction that’ll have your carpets stain-free.

Karrie said: “Making your own homemade all-natural carpet cleaner has never been so easy! With our easy-to-make, inexpensive all-natural solution you won’t buy the commercial stuff anymore. It’s safe, effective, and uses ingredients you likely already have at home!”

Vinegar is actually a bit of a hero when it comes to busting carpet stains and freeing trapped muck, thanks to its acidic nature.

Vinegar is top-notch at tackling alkaline blots like pet wee, soap scum, or the usual suspects that tend to lurk in your carpet.

Not only does it naturally neutralise odours, but it’s also got antibacterial properties, meaning it’ll sort out any bad smells and give your fabric a proper clean without just hiding the mess.

Karrie claimed: “A versatile and natural cleaning agent, vinegar effectively cuts through dirt and odours, leaving surfaces sanitised due to its acidic properties.

“Hot water helps to dissolve grime and enhance the cleaning power of other ingredients, making it easier to lift stains from the carpet.”

To give this mixture a pleasant scent, you can add essential oils, but be cautious as many can be toxic to dogs and cats, so research thoroughly before using around pets.

Creating a homemade carpet cleaner is simple. Start by mixing half a gallon of vinegar with half a gallon of hot water in a large bowl or in the sink.

If you want, add five drops of essential oil and stir until well combined. Before applying the solution, thoroughly vacuum your carpet.

It’s also recommended to spot-test any homemade solution by applying it to a small, inconspicuous area and waiting 24 hours to assess the results.

You can then use the homemade carpet cleaner in a carpet cleaning machine or apply it directly to stains and scrub.

The cleaning process takes just five minutes, but allow 24 hours for the fabric to dry completely, and your carpet should be stain-free once again.
