With the weather cold and unpredictable, drying washing outdoors is no longer possible for many areas of the UK.
This means often drying washing indoors, but if there is little to no ventilation, this can result in damp and mould building up.
Even with ventilation, washing can take days to dry, often leaving a damp and musty smell behind.
This has resulted in many people buying heated airers and dehumidifiers to help dry washing and combat moisture.
Having tried many heated airers over the years, I think they’re a waste of money as they only dry the area of clothing which comes into contact with the wet washing.
Dehumidifiers, however, have become an integral part of my daily life, and can successfully dry a load of washing overnight.
I use a Meaco one which I’ve had for a couple of years now, and the amount of water it collects each day is incredible.
However, I was intrigued by the Minky SureDri Heat Pod Drying System which is a clever gadget that can transform any standard three-tiered drying back into a brand new-heated airer.
However, it’s not like any heated airer I had ever tried before as it essentially blows hot air into the covered airer to dry laundry.
The Minky drying system removes the need to buy a new heated airer as it fits any standard three-tier airer which many people already have in their homes.
It does come with a metal insert which holds the cover up but I soon ditched this as it was bulky to store and didn’t really do anything for the airer.
It works perfectly well just covering the clothes with the cover on its own which makes it easier to store and remove from the airer.
The heat pod simply generates warm air for fast and economical drying while the cover retains the heat.
It does take a bit of getting used to as I found the dials to be a little temperamental but if you use them gently, they rotate fine.
The cord is extremely short so I had to attach it to an extension lead otherwise it wouldn’t have been possible to use.
I also wasn’t a fan of the dial placement, as the short lead meant with my washing set up that the dials were hard to reach, but this was soon combated once I remembered what dial placement was my favourite.
I found using the device for three hours on the hottest setting works brilliantly for my clothes, drying them within that time.
It’s simple and small enough to store in a cupboard, but powerful enough to dry wet washing within three hours.
It also doubles up as a heater as the room becomes extremely warm, which is great in the winter months. This beat any heated dryer I’ve ever tried and have recommended friends and family to try this nifty device.
The drying system retails for £90 which I do think it’s pricey for essentially a heater but it works incredibly well and could save your home from getting mould. At the moment it is on sale at Currys for just £65 if you’re in the market for one.
However, if you are after a heated airer system to try something cheaper, there are many on the market including Minky’s Heated Indoor Clothes Airer for £60, Dunelm’s Heated Airer with Wings for £56 and My Home Heated Airer from Wilko on sale for £29.99.
