The M62 in Greater Manchester has been closed after a 24-year-old man died in a “tragic” collision and car fire.
A vehicle crashed into a westbound bridge near Junction 19 for Heywood at around 11:45pm on Sunday, March 2, according to police. An air ambulance was called to the scene and a 24-year-old man was confirmed to have died on Monday morning.
Parts of the motorway reopened overnight, but the westbound carriageway near Junction 19 remains closed while investigations continue.
At 5.30am, National Highways said: “The M62 remains closed westbound between the exit and entry slips of J19 Heywood in GreaterManchester. @NWmwaypolice have nearly completed recovery and contractors are standing by for the clean up and repair operation that will likely extend into the morning peak.”
