US President Donald Trump has urged Russia and Ukraine to come to the negotiating table “before it’s too late”, in an apparent change of approach to dealing with the Kremlin.

“I am strongly considering large scale Banking Sanctions, Sanctions, and Tariffs on Russia until a Cease Fire and FINAL SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT ON PEACE IS REACHED. To Russia and Ukraine, get to the table right now, before it is too late,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Friday.

His warning appeared to go unheeded, however, as Russia launched a barrage of missile and drone strikes on Ukraine on Friday night, killing 11 people in the city of Dobropillya and targeting the country’s energy and gas infrastructure elsewhere.

Moscow is already under heavy US sanctions, including against Russian banks, companies and oligarchs. Some assets and individuals have been under sanction since the annexation of Crimea in 2014.
