More Switch 2 details appear to have leaked ahead of the upcoming Nintendo Direct conference on April 2.
Nintendo is expected to use the Switch 2 Direct presentation to announce the console’s release date, price and games line-up. The company is also likely to confirm when fans can pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 ahead of launch.
Unfortunately for Nintendo, however, the Switch 2 pre-order date may have been revealed ahead of schedule.
Nintendo fans may want to get their wallets ready, because according to the leak, Switch 2 pre-orders will go live on April 2.
That’s according to a Best Buy Canada blog post, which suggests pre-orders will go live on the same day as the Nintendo Direct.
While the Best Buy Canada blog post has since been deleted, the leaked pre-order date was spotted by IGN.
“Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will open on April 2nd at Best Buy Canada,” the post is reported to have said.
The post didn’t mention the cost of the Switch 2, although analysts are predicting a $400 price tag for the upcoming console.
Another recent Nintendo Switch 2 leak suggests the console may support enhanced versions of original Switch games.
On the website for Nintendo’s upcoming Virtual Game Cards scheme, Nintendo confirmed that there will be Switch 2 Editions of certain games.
“Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games and Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games can only be loaded on a Nintendo Switch 2 system,” reads a post on the Virtual Game Cards website.
If “Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games” are titles only available on the Switch 2, then “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games” are likely to be upgraded versions of games that are also available on the original Switch. This could potentially breathe new life into some of your old favourites.
Speaking of Nintendo Switch 2 games, the announcement trailer (above) suggests that Mario Kart 9 is in development for the console.
Better yet, it looks like Mario Kart 9 could support 24-person multiplayer, which should lead to some chaotic races.
It’s also pretty likely that Metroid Prime 4 will be available as a cross-gen game for the Switch and Switch 2 when it launches later this year. This could be one of the “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games” mentioned on the Nintendo Virtual Game Cards website.
