Apple’s iPad tends to rule the tech conversation when it comes to tablets in mainstream culture – and there are new iPads on the way – but you’d be foolish not to consider an Android alternative when shopping for a tablet in 2024. If you’re in the market for a slate then the new £299 OnePlus Pad Go could be just what you’re looking for, packing in solid looking specs and design at a price that undercuts one of the latest similar Samsung Galaxy Tabs.
The OnePlus Pad Go boasts a big bright 11.35-inch LCD screen with an impressive 2K resolution. Not only is it pin sharp, it’s also got a 90Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling than many other competing tablets, including the iPad, iPad mini, and iPad Air, which are all stuck on 60Hz.
This is a tablet with a distinctive design, coming in a green metallic hue with a two tone finish on the back. There’s a large circular camera and logo that suggest this is a tablet to use in landscape orientation, blacked up by a selfie camera on the long edge on the front. That’s great if you want to prop the tablet up in the optional folio case for watching Netflix or taking easy video calls.
You can download virtually any app too thanks to the Google Play Store and Android. 256GB of built in storage should be more than enough for all those apps, games, and video downloads for your next flight. Add to that a large 8,000mAh battery and a fast charger in the box, and this is an awful lot of tech for a whisker under £300.

Samsung may be a better known brand, but its Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, which costs £349, only comes with 64GB storage and has a smaller battery. The screen is also a lower resolution than the OnePlus tablet’s.
Though the processor in the new Pad Go could be a little underpowered for high-end mobile games, the OnePlus tablet has an interesting feature called cellular data sharing, a very handy perk if you also have a compatible OnePlus phone with a 4G or 5G data plan. We’ve recently reviewed, and loved, the OnePlus 12 and the impressive folding phone the OnePlus Open.
With data sharing, you simply login to a OnePlus account on your phone and tablet, and you can share your data connection with the Pad Go if you’re not able to connect to Wi-Fi. It works differently to hotspotting, and you can even send and receive calls and texts from your tablet via the phone.
