In the face of challenges raised by the absence of King Charles and Princess Kate while they continue to battle through their cancer diagnoses, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh have appeared unfazed on the public stage.
With support from Duchess Sophie, Prince Edward has continued to deliver for the Royal Family across the country with his “down-to-earth attitude”.
Prince Edward will lead the Royal Family in celebrating Anzac Day on April 25, which marks the anniversary of the start of the First World War Gallipoli landings, and is a national day of remembrance for Australia and New Zealand. It is a day to mark the service of members of the armed forces who have served, fought and died for their country.
Royal editor, Ingrid Seward, wrote in the MailOnline “marriage and fatherhood have matured” the father-of-two and added Edward “credits much of this to his wife Sophie”. In recent weeks, the royal duo have demonstrated their integrity by stepping into the spotlight.
Speaking of Prince Edward’s personality, Major General Sir Michael Hobbs told the MailOnline: “There is a degree of softness there which makes him a thoroughly decent chap.’
This was also demonstrated in Sophie and Edward’s recent visit to Leeds for the Community Sport and Recreation Awards where Sophie gave a speech dedicated to her husband ahead of his 60th birthday.
Speaking of her husband, she said: “He has been my guide and shown me the way over the years. He has given me much help and advice, not always taken I admit, and his knowledge and instincts that have been honed over decades of service are invaluable..”
As part of her speech, she added: “I think we make quite a good team!”
She finished the speech by proudly stating he was the “best” father and “most loving” husband. Sophie and Edward share two children, Lady Louise Windsor, 20, and James, Earl of Wessex, 16.
