Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection release time, date, maps, modes and discounts | Gaming | Entertainment

Two of my favourite games from the original Xbox are making a comeback this week, as Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection hit PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch. Featuring the 2004 multiplayer classic and its 2005 sequel Star Wars Battlefront 2, the Classic Collection has a March 14 release date on all platforms. Based on the Steam countdown timer, the game should unlock at around 4am GMT, which means UK fans should be able to start playing on Thursday morning.

Developed by Aspyr Media, the team behind the recent Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered, Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection contains nearly 40 ground maps, as well as a variety of space maps.

This includes bonus maps set in Jabba’s Palace, Bespin Cloud City, Rhen Var and the Yavin 4 Arena.

Perhaps best of all, however, is that Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection will support up to 64 players in multiplayer.

Sadly, however, while PlayStation and Xbox versions will support cross-generation play, there’s no cross-platform multiplayer. This means you’ll need to think hard about which version you buy, especially if your friends are also planning to pick up a copy.

In addition to a wealth of multiplayer content, both Battlefront games feature their very own single-player campaigns.

The original Battlefront campaign features battles from the first six Star Wars movies, including The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.

The sequel sees players join the rise of Darth Vader’s elite 501st Legion of Stormtroopers.

Weirdly, the thing I’m most excited about is the inclusion of a two-person split-screen mode for offline play.

Another neat feature is the expansion of the game’s Hero Assault mode, which is now playable on all ground maps, not just Tatooine.

Other game modes include Conquest, which sees teams attempt to capture control points and deplete enemy resources.

That’s on top of the self-explanatory Capture the Flag mode, as well as Hunt mode and the Assault aerial dogfight mode set in space.

If you’re looking to pick up a copy of Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection, then pre-ordering soon will save you 10% on the full asking price.

At the time of writing, the game is available for £26.09 on PlayStation (for users with a PS Plus membership), £26.31 on Xbox, and £26.40 on Steam. The Nintendo Switch version is £31.49.
