He adds that these issues, which can occur as quickly as within two months of ownership, include carbon buildup on the diesel engine’s intake manifold and DPF (diesel particulate filter) issues.

Ray notes: “Diesel cars take longer to the [proper engine] operating temperature, Tom [video’s camera operator], and if it’s not up to the operating temperature, it’s not going to do the regeneration.”

This regeneration, also known as auto regeneration, refers to a DPF filter periodically burning off the soot to prevent clogging and maintain optimal performance.
