Spring and early summer bring lush lawns and blooming gardens, prompting many to spend more time maintaining their outdoor spaces. 

However, a local gardener has issued a cautionary warning for fellow garden enthusiasts, be mindful of baby rabbits burrowed underground when mowing the lawn.

Tiktoker, MulberryAcres, said she was mowing her long grass when she came across some movement.

Upon further inspection, she realised it was a nest of baby rabbits. Rabbits often build their nests in shallow depressions in the ground, typically lined with grass and fur. 

These nests can be difficult to spot, especially if they are hidden in the middle of the lawn or under thick grass. 

The gardener warned people to be extra precautions to protect these vulnerable animals.

To avoid harming baby rabbits and other wildlife, Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Control offered advice to ensure their safety.

1. Inspect Your Lawn Before Mowing

Before starting the mower, take a few minutes to walk around the lawn and look for any signs of animal activity.

Rabbit nests often look like small patches of dead grass or slightly raised soil.

If you see any unusual patches, gently probe the area to check for a nest.

2. Mow with Caution

If you find a nest, mark the area with a visible marker such as a small flag or stick.

This will remind you to avoid the spot while mowing.

Additionally, consider mowing at a higher setting to reduce the risk of disturbing any hidden nests.

3. Create Safe Zones

If possible, designate certain areas of your lawn or garden as wildlife-friendly zones where you refrain from mowing or disturbing the ground.

These areas can provide a safe haven for rabbits and other small creatures.

4. Educate and Inform Others

Share your knowledge and experiences with neighbors and friends.

Raising awareness about the presence of baby rabbits and other wildlife can help protect these animals across a wider area.

5. Support Local Wildlife Groups
