This summer, a simple and budget-friendly food storage trick is taking the internet by storm, promising to keep treats and fruits cool for longer.
A home organisation expert named Kate (known online as Kate_CleanHome on TikTok) came up with a “genius” trick for keeping snacks chilled for extended periods.
In a TikTok video captioned “best party hack,” Kate demonstrates a surprisingly simple method involving just a tray and some water.
She repurposes a large foil roasting pan into a portable cooler by filling it with water and freezing it solid.
Once frozen, she cuts up fruit into bite-sized pieces that fit perfectly on top of the chilled “tray.”
If you don’t have a suitable container at home, foil roasting trays are readily available at most supermarkets and online retailers.
The hack garnered praise from many viewers, with some calling it “mind-blowing” and a “genius” idea.
One excited viewer even commented they’d be using it for a party the next day.
However, scepticism arose regarding the practicality, with some viewers pointing out the potential for a watery mess once the ice melts, especially if weighed down by large amounts of fruit.
Location also seemed to be a factor, with viewers from warmer climates like Texas and Florida jokingly suggesting the hack wouldn’t last long in their scorching temperatures.

Carrie Higgin, a cleaning expert and founder of Making Lemonade shared that her friend first told her that the “cup coin trick” is one of the easiest ways to keep flies away while they were being annoyed by the pests outside.
She wrote: “I’d heard rumours of people using plastic baggies filled with water and pennies to repel flies in their home but hadn’t thought to take the action outdoors.
“So I followed her directions and filled up three glasses with water and a few pennies, placed them around the food, and watched. We watched the flies come to land, see the water, and turn around and ZOOM AWAY.”
