Home security has always been a concern but as technology has advanced and become more affordable in the past few years, you can now pick up a smart doorbell relatively cheaply. One of the leading manufacturers is Ring, a company that was acquired by Amazon in 2018. The Ring brand still exists and produces well-priced reliable security cameras, and its Video Doorbell is one of the most popular.
Ahead of Amazon Prime Day, which runs 16-17 July, Amazon has several Prime Day Early Access Deals exclusive to Prime subscribers, and this Ring Video Doorbell deal is particularly good. You can currently pick up the Ring Video Doorbell and an Echo Pop smart speaker for £49.99, a huge £94.99 saving – the two together would normally cost £144.98.
The speaker, which is one of the newest Alexa voice assistant speakers released by Amazon, is handy when used with the Doorbell because it acts as the bell’s chime. Buying just the Video Doorbell on its own leaves you without an audible chime in your home, instead people pressing the bell would only normally ping your smartphone, which shows the video feed of who is there and allows you to talk to them.
But with the Echo Pop, you can also have the classic doorbell chime sound, ahem, echo throughout your hallway just like you’d expect with a normal doorbell. The Echo Pop is also a smart speaker though, so it hooks up to your Wi-Fi and can answer questions, such as what the weather is doing, what the football score was, or play all your favourite radio stations.

The Doorbell itself offers crisp 1080p HD video feeds including a night vision mode so you can tune in and check if anyone is snooping around, whether you’re tucked up in bed or on a beach in Majorca.
You get notifications straight to your phone or smartwatch when someone presses the bell or if motion is detected, and the two way talk feature lets you chat to the person. You can install the unit with the included tools (you will probably also need a drill!) and it runs on a rechargeable battery – or you can hook it up to existing doorbell wires if your house has them.
We’re not sure how long this deal will be on for, so it’s best to snap it up now if you want to get a smart doorbell and speaker for less than £50. It’s a great deal.
