How to clean shower glass in 5 minutes without leaving behind streaks

Keeping shower screens clean can be one of the toughest jobs in the bathroom as it can appear cloudy if you are not using the right cleaning ingredients.

Shower screens often appear dirty even if they have just been cleaned due to limescale, a build-up of water minerals that can be difficult to remove without leaving behind streaks.

Most commercial cleaning products can also leave behind residue, especially if they have not been rinsed off properly which can quickly attract dirt and dust

Luckily Jayden Copeland, a cleaning expert and founder of Backroad Bloom, has a simple homemade cleaner that will keep shower glass clean without leaving any residue or streaks.

Jayden said: “The best homemade shower cleaner is a mix of distilled white vinegar and regular ol’ dish soap. It’s so simple and easy, but SO effective! You won’t ever need to buy store-bought shower cleaner again.”

Why is this homemade cleaner so effective?

White vinegar is often considered the best natural product for cleaning glass as it contains acetic acid, which can break down limescale and other grime without leaving behind streaks.

This simple kitchen ingredient evaporates very quickly when mixed with water so you can have sparkling clean glass in no time.

Washing up liquid is used to naturally dissolve grease and fatty stains often found in soap scum, a white residue left behind by soap, hair products and shower gels.

How to make a homemade solution to clean shower glass

You will need:

  • White vinegar
  • Washing up liquid
  • An empty spray bottle
  • Sponge
  • Two cloths

Instructions

All you need to do is combine equal parts white vinegar and washing up liquid in an empty spray bottle, then screw the lid on and give it a good shake to combine the ingredients.

Next, spray down the shower glass and then leave it to sit for roughly five minutes.

Once the time is up, use a sponge to scrub down the glass and the dirt should easily come away.

After cleaning the glass give it a rinse with a damp cloth and then use a dry polish cloth to dry it off.

Jayden said: “This DIY shower cleaner spray can be used on a weekly basis (or more often if that’s your thing), to get your shower walls and glass spick and span.”
