Oasis and Blur’s bitter rivalry to be retold in new West End play The Battle | Theatre | Entertainment

In 1995, Britpop fans had to choose between Oasis and Blur as the two bands’ new singles Country House and Roll With It hit the charts on the same day.

The Southern middle class Blur may have won that particular battle but the Northern working class Oasis lads managed to win the war with the success of their second album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?

Now a new play called The Battle is set to recount the bitter rivalry between the two bands, one that fiercely hit the headlines at the time.

According to Deadline, the 2025 theatre production will mark the 30th anniversary of the spat and coincide with the Oasis reunion tour.

Penned by former indie rocker John Niven, the show is produced by The Life of Pi’s Simon Friend, who promises it will be an “honest” story that isn’t “sanitised” by having the bands’ involvement.

Sold as “a comedy with teeth”, The Battle will feature actors portraying Noel and Liam Gallagher, plus the members of Blur.

Friend added: “We’re aiming for 2025 because that would be 30 years after the event. There seems to be a great nostalgia for the mid-90s right now.”
