Despite how unsightly black mould is, it can creep up on you and before you realise it is in lingering on grout and behind doors. I had a few spots of black mould in my home that had built up over the winter as internal heating and the need to dry clothes inside increased the condensation inside.
But needing to repaint our kitchen, I had tried and failed to move the black mould with scrubbing alone. Inspired by my colleague and her use of the HG Mould Spray, when I was browsing the aisles of Home Bargains, I spotted a £1.99 Kilrock mould remover promising to do the same thing. Now, I am aware there are natural alternatives, but I had already tried to remove this mould, especially from the bathroom grout, and some of the mould was very high up to reach.
The first place I tried the spray was behind the backdoor, a forgotten area as it is out of the way. After opening the windows and door, I sprayed all over the affected area, and just left it.
Instructions state to spray 10cm away from the area and leave for 30 minutes.
About five later, I was chatting with my husband who stopped mid-sentence and whispered in an almost mystical way “look”…
Turning my head to the door, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Mere minutes had passed and there was nothing there, no mould to be seen, it had completely disappeared.
I had not rubbed it in, I had not wiped it off, it was all just totally gone in a magical five minutes – I was astounded.
And excited to try it out on the bathroom white grout and sealant. I had already been in with an old toothbrush and bathroom cleaner and had only managed to lift bits with some ferocious elbow grease.
I repeated the process of the Kilrock spray, opening the windows, but also moving things out of the way that could get some of the spray fallout, like toothbrushes and towels.
Again, after minutes, it was gone, like it had never been there in the first place. Kilrock recommend you wipe down the area with a wet cloth after the 30 minutes, which is what I did with both areas.
The spray does have a strong smell, but you expect that and something I can overlook for the sheer alchemy that I witnessed.
Kilrock says this is a “professional formula” with a “bleaching action”. None of the paintwork or tiles were discoloured in anyway when I used this product.
Due to the spray’s strong nature, it is advised to wear gloves and wash your hands thoroughly after use. I would also caution to take care if you have to spray up high and try to get level with the area so you don’t have any fallout.
You can pick up the Kilrock mould remover spray for £1.99 at Home Bargains.
