Oxford Street protests LIVE: People warned ‘don’t come to London’ as police swarm | UK | News

Protesters have led to multiple central London streets being closed off this afternoon, with police activating powers. The Metropolitan Police Service said earlier this week that annual Al Quds organisers are holding their annual protest today. They were scheduled to form up at 2.30pm at Marble Arch and move towards to Portland Place via Oxford Street. A static rally was then planned take place in Portland Place. Conditions have been imposed to make sure it is finished by 5.30pm, police say.

A counter protest, organised by Stop The Hate, was due to take place at the same time, with activists planning to hold an assembly in Oxford Circus. Maps have suggested that multiple roads around Bond Street and Oxford Circus are shut. Chief Superintendent Stuart Bell, who is leading the policing operation in London for Sunday, said: “The role of the police is to ensure that groups can exercise their right to peaceful protest, while also balancing the rights of those in the wider community to go about their lives without serious disruption.”

The Marylebone Association posted on X: “Don’t come to Central London it is all closed. Buses not going anywhere!”
