Last week, Google announced a brand new Pixel phone but then immediately delayed its release. The Pixel 9a was expected to be available for pre-order on March 19, as previously Google fans were able to put their cash down on announcement days to bag the latest devices.
Google confirmed to The Verge the Pixel 9a was not yet ready for pre-order due to a “component quality issue” that is being investigated. Google said the phone will now be ready for pre-order sometime during April.
If you had your eye on the £499 Pixel 9a that could be frustrating, but the timing could also be perfect. As part of the Amazon Spring Deal Days sale event that runs from March 25 to March 31, several other Google Pixel phones are discounted, meaning you can save right now on a new phone rather than waiting for the release of the 9a.
The Pixel 8a is down to just £349 in Amazon’s spring sale, a considerable chunk of change less than its £499 RRP. You get dual cameras, a 120Hz screen, Android 15 software, and a choice of colours – exactly the same as the Pixel 9a. For the sake of £150, you could be better off opting for last year’s model, as it doesn’t look like much has changed.

Best of all, Google is guaranteeing seven years of software updates for the Pixel 8a from its 2024 release, so even buying it today will ensure you are covered with security updates until 2031.

If you want something a little more premium, Amazon also has the regular Pixel 9 for £649, also £150 off its £799 RRP. This bags you dual cameras of better quality than the 8a or 9a, plus a more high-end build quality and a superior screen with smaller bezels.

There’s also faster wireless charging, more robust version of Gorilla Glass used to protect the screen, full IP68 dust and water resistance and 12GB RAM, more than the 8GB in the A-Series Pixels. This will keep things running smoother today and into the future.
Perhaps the best deal of the bunch though sees the Pixel 9 Pro – my favourite of the current Pixel line up – reduced by £200, down from £999 to £799. This makes it the usual price of the regular Pixel 9, but you get several notable upgrades.

The best is the addition of the third telephoto camera lens that can optically zoom up to 5x. This adds a huge amount of versatility to your photo shooting experience, plus its the only Pixel that can record video in 8K resolution.
This all comes in the most premium build of any Pixel to date, with matt glass back and gloss metal side rails. 16GB RAM also makes this the zippiest Pixel in terms of performance, plus the most software features across any of the line up. If you want the full fat Pixel experience, this is the one to go for.
You can also get the Pixel 9 Pro XL, which is the same as the 9 Pro but with a larger screen and battery. This is currently on sale for £899 down from £1,099.
